5-minute install
A flat blade screwdriver removes the clips from the old shocks. New shocks then pop in with no tools at all. Prop the hood open with a broom, and replace the shocks one at a time.

Works great. Simple install.
Easy to put these in. Make sure you prop the hood up well. Small flat blade screwdriver to twist and pop up the retaining clips on both the old and new parts.

Shockingly easy
Stickers are the hard part. Hair dryer / heat gun to soften the adhesive. Rubbing alcohol to clean up the sticky bits. Two small screwdrivers to pop the clips off the old struts. A light tap with a rubber mallet to install the new ones.

As others reported, it even comes with a dab of grease in each of the new sockets. Nice!

Worked well
The old ones came off with just a screwdriver and these popped on with just a rubber mallet. Perfect.

Hood strut replacement fits fine
After 16 years, the original front hood struts in my 996 became too weak to do their job. Ordered these replacements and they fit perfectly. Quick job with only a flat-blade screwdriver. Recommended!

Hood Shocks
Probably the easiest replacement part to put on a 911. The price is very reasonable and appears to be quality. There was even a small dab of grease in each of the cups already. Ordered them on Sunday and had them Tuesday.

FedEx Still Shipping But I had to write...
I purchased a set of these from a local store and despite specifically saying they were for the front hood X3+..., I got either the rear set or they just plain wrong. I decided to get the next set of Stabilus hood shocks from Pelican to be sure I purchased them from someone who knew exactly what I needed. Despite the shipping, I paid the same price for two that the local volume discount parts store wanted for one - before tax. With the great reviews, I have no idea why I didn't order from Pelican first. Maybe I thought I would get then faster through the local store. Also wrong based on my first order from Pelican. The reviews made am easy job even more simple.

The shocks were as described and as simple to install as indicated. The paper tag was hard to remove but easily dealt with with adhesive remover

Front Hood Struts
Arrived today and just finished the install. Sure can tell the difference. My experience was a little different than others. Didn't take long to remove the stickers with a little Goo-Gone. Install was about twenty minutes took me a little while to figure out the clips. Once I did, the second one didn't take near as long. Oh, and fast shipping. Thanks Pelican.

Easy to Install -- and used hiking poles as support
Using some of the comments from Pelican, I realized that dealing with the clips was the more difficult aspect. So, I "preped" the clips by pulling them out only partway, so they snapped in place, rather than removing them. Also, I used my hiking poles to prop up the hood -- being able to extend them exactly the right length made holding the hood in place very easy.

Hood shock for Boxter
It's a perfect replacement for the original. took about 30 minutes to replace, 5 to install and 25 minutes to remove the label that is stuck on with glue that is so sticky that it can hold up the world. I understand the inventory need for the label.. but you are making it difficult for your customers. Maybe a label with less sticky glue ????

No more lumps on my head.
Changed both of my fwd compartment struts in about 15 minutes. The lid doesn't hit me in the back of the head any more. In fact, it almost hits me in the face when I open it.

Product was easy to install fit well and was a great improvement giving solid support to the front hood. Noticeable effort to close hood.

1/3 of Dealer price!
Expected quality parts and as always Pelican delivered. Pelican provides great value, the local dealer was asking $68/shock ... talk about shock! The parts are "holding up" as expected.

Great product
The studs fit as per originals and easy to replace by simply lifting off the clips using a small screw driver. With regards to the comments made by Mark K. dated June 13, 2012 about spending an hour removing the sticky part numbers labels, I spent less than 5 minutes to remove both. Firstly I peeled off the sticky labels slowly. There are residual glue left behind which can be removed very quickly by a cloth and Goo Gone fluid that can be purchased at local Walmart, Home Depot or Lowes. We need to understand that the sticky labels are needed for stock control and fulfilment purposed as it has the UPC barcode that distribution personel uses to scan and record so the correct product can be sent to customer as ordered and for inventory and restocking purposes.

Hood support shocks for 996
So far, the supports are fine. The real proof is their longevity. Only time will tell. I see from other reviews that some customers had issues with stickers applied to the supports. You must have addressed that issue, because mine arrived with no stickers. Thanks for that.

Hood shocks/struts
Factory parts, easy to install, no more hood falling on my head, and that's a good thing...

I see that several people have commented on the stickers, I agree... I used GooGone and it didn't remove any paint or labeling.

Excellent product except for stickers on strut. Removing glue also removed print on strut. Seems unnecessary.

Quality OEM Replacement
The non-OEM relacements did not last. The plastic ballcaps broke after a few months and I had to return them. These are working very well and cups show no signs of weakening. Highly recommended!

stop retagging factory parts
I purchased these factory hood shocks. They fit and function as original. How ever I spent an hour scraping, and cleaning their paper part tag, that was totally sealed in clear tape off the body of the shock. That made the part look after market, and cheap.

Easy Installation
Super easy to install (just remove the outer metal clip and gently pry off). Be sure to have something handy to hold the bonnet open (or have a helper). Installation took about 3 minutes total, and the new hood shocks work great.

So easy, so good.
These hood shocks certainly qualify for top honors in ease of installation. I think they went on easier than windshield wiper blades. I was also happy to notice the major difference in tension that they provided. My son will be ordering trunk shocks for his car any day now, since he saw how easy the install was. He has needed them for a while, but did not want to pay dealer prices.

Front hood shock a snap
I was in a hurry a tried to put these in my 996 one morning and was surprised how easily it all came together. A little screwdriver to open up the snap and a small pry bar to pop them off. The new ones go back on with a click and my hood now opens nicely.
