Working at the left side of the transmission, remove the 24mm fill plug (yellow arrow). The fill plug can be tight. Use a ratchet with a long handle or a breaker bar if you cannot get it loose with a wrench. Next you will remove the drain plug.
Remove the 24mm fluid drain plug (green arrow). Be sure your drain pan (red arrow) has a capacity of at least four liters. Once the fluid has drained, reinstall and tighten the drain plug. Be sure to replace the sealing washer (yellow arrow).
Using a fluid pump, fill the transmission until fluid flows out of the fill plug hole (inset). Then allow the fluid to run out until it flows out slowly from the bottom of the hole. Replace the fill plug sealing washer.
Comments: what is the procedure on how to change the filter on a automatic transmission, I did not think it can be changed because I do not see an oil pan, just the drain plug. volvo v70 2002 thank you.

Followup from the Pelican Staff:
Volvo wants the fluid drained, then the return hose removed and filled and drained using containers. It's quite the procedure.
We don't currently have that tech article. If we get a chance to perform the procedure, we will be sure to document it.
I would grab a repair manual. It will have the procedure, special tools and torque specs.
