There are a few jobs on the Volvo C30 that require removing the instrument cluster, such as replacing light bulbs or updating to the R-Design style gauges. In this article, I'll go over the steps involved with removing the instrument cluster.

Begin by releasing the steering column lock (green arrow) and moving the column as far down and outward as possible.

Loosen and remove the two T25 Torx screws (green arrows) holding the plastic trim bezel in place.

Loosen and remove the two T25 Torx screws (green arrows) holding the instrument cluster to the car. At this point, push the cluster up to clear the retaining hook on the backside of the cluster. The yellow arrow shows the approximate position of the hook.

The factory manual says to remove the instrument cluster as one piece.
Figure 4

The factory manual says to remove the instrument cluster as one piece. I found it much easier to remove the outer plastic lens first and then rotate the base piece out. The outer lens should pop off with little resistance. At this point, lift the cluster up off the retaining hook and maneuver it around to reach the electrical connection.

Press the tab on the electrical connector (green arrow) and pull it out of the cluster.

Press the tab on the electrical connector (green arrow) and pull it out of the cluster. You can now maneuver the cluster out of the dashboard. Installation is the reverse of removal.
