The Volvo C30 uses a micro switch to release the catch and allow you to open the rear hatch. Over time, the micro switch can wear out, leaving you with a situation where the release won't work. In this article, I'll go over the steps involved with replacing the switch. Replacement is pretty easy and should take no more than an hour.

You'll need to remove the wiper motor cover in order to access the switch. See our article on Rear Wiper Motor Replacement for more information. The switch itself is incorporated into the handle on the rear hatch. Replacing the switch requires replacing the entire handle. Keep in mind that there are two different handles. One handle is for cars from 2007-08 and the other is for cars from 2009-13. The procedure is essentially the same for both handles.

Use the key fob to open the rear hatch and remove the wiper motor cover (See our article on Rear Wiper Motor Replacement for more information).
