Taillight Lens Replacement

Replace taillight bulbs

Let's face it; nobody likes to see a cracked or broken taillight lens. Over time, the elements and Murphy's Law can break or crack one of the lenses. The good news is that replacement is pretty easy and should take no more than an hour. Note that this article is applicable to both left and right taillights.

Open the access door inside the trunk to access the back of the taillight lens.

Open the access door inside the trunk to access the back of the taillight lens. Press the tab (purple arrow) on the electrical connector and pull it out of the bulb carrier. Now press the two tabs on the bulb carrier (green arrows) and pull the bulb carrier out of the taillight lens.

It's a tight fit, but the bulb holder comes out of the taillight lens with a little effort and twisting.

Now pop the retaining grommet (green arrow) out of the trunk liner and carefully peel the liner out from under the trim piece (purple arrow).

Loosen and remove the three 8mm nuts (green arrows) holding the taillight lens to the body.

When installing the new taillight lens, make sure that the sealing strip (green arrow) is oriented correctly.
