One often overlooked wear item on your car is the wiper blades. This is one of those things that can easily ruin your day if the weather suddenly turns bad. Replacement of the blades is very easy and should take no longer than 15 minutes.

If you live in a wetter climate, such as the Pacific Northwest, then you'll understand the importance of wiper blades that work well. It is easy to overlook the condition of your wipers if you live in a dry climate, such as Southern California. If running the wipers just streaks the windshield, it's time for new blades.

Lower quality blades tend to dry out or crack quicker than quality ones. I personally use Bosch premium blades on all my cars. They are more expensive, but they last longer and do a nicer job of keeping the water off the windshield.

Replacing the wiper blades (green arrow) on the Mk4 Jetta can be a little confusing.

Replacing the wiper blades (green arrow) on the Mk4 Jetta can be a little confusing. In this article I'll show you how it is done.

Lift each wiper arm up off the windshield and turn it over to access the release tab (green arrow).

Lift each wiper arm up off the windshield and turn it over to access the release tab (green arrow). Press the tab and pull the wiper blade in the direction of the yellow arrow.

Now maneuver the blade off the arm and fit the new one in its place.

Now maneuver the blade off the arm and fit the new one in its place. Be sure that you hear the small click as you fit the blade in place.
