Lower a-pillar Panel Removal

Parts Required:

Lower A pillar panel

Use caution pulling off the panels

Complementary Modification:

Replace hood release handle

The lower A pillar panels need to be removed to gain access for certain jobs on the Mk4 Jetta, such as replacing the door seals or replacing the hood release handle. Removal is easy, but does require removing the lower front dash panel and the glovebox. See our articles on Lower Dashboard Panel Removal and Glovebox Removal for more information.

Left A Pillar Panel: Pull the left side panel (green arrow) off the end of the dashboard.

Left A Pillar Panel: Move to below the dashboard and carefully pull the panel off at the top edge (green arrows).

Left A Pillar Panel: Now pull the panel off the body from the rear, moving towards the front.

Left A Pillar Panel: Now pull the panel off the body from the rear, moving towards the front. Use caution, as it is easy to break the plastic mounting tabs.

Right A Pillar Panel: Loosen and remove the T20 Torx screw (green arrow) holding the footrest to the floor.

Right A Pillar Panel: Loosen and remove the T20 Torx screw (green arrow) holding the footrest to the floor. Slide the footrest up to remove it.

Right A Pillar Panel: Pull the panel off from the top edge first, then along the bottom edge.

Right A Pillar Panel: Pull the panel off from the top edge first, then along the bottom edge. Rotate the hood release handle to slide it through the A pillar panel. Re-installing the panels is the reverse order of removal.
