In this article I'll go over the steps involved with adjusting the parking brake cables in your Mk4 Jetta. Adjusting the parking brake isn't difficult, but it does require you to raise the rear end of the car and support it on jack stands. See our article on Jacking up Your Mk4 Jetta for more information.

Adjusting the parking brake requires you to remove the rear portion of the center console. See our article on Center Console Removal for more information.

To adjust the parking brake, follow this procedure. Lower the parking brake handle fully and firmly press the brake pedal once. Then raise the parking brake handle to the fourth notch. Tighten the 10mm adjustment nut (green arrow) until both wheels cannot turn. Once adjusted, release the parking brake handle and check that the rear wheels can turn freely.
