If you have to remove the seats from your GTI MkV to replace them or service components beneath them, this tech article will show you how. I will break this article down into front seats, rear arm rest and rear seats. Though there are a few options for different seats and configurations in the GTI, the procedures are basically the same.

Front Seats - This procedure was done on the driver's side seat but the passenger's is similar.
Figure 1

Front Seats - This procedure was done on the driver's side seat but the passenger's is similar. Begin by sliding the seat all the way forward. Remove the two 10mm 12 point bolts (red arrows) on the bracket at the lower rear of the seat. Make sure the 12 point is well seated in the bolt

Front Seats - Slide the seat all the way forward and remove the two 10mm 12 point bolts, again be very careful and make sure the bit is well seated in the bolt.

Front Seats - Disconnect the ground strap (yellow arrow) from the negative terminal on the battery (red arrow).
Figure 3

Front Seats - Disconnect the ground strap (yellow arrow) from the negative terminal on the battery (red arrow). You are going to be working on the air bag wiring connections so allow the residual electricity to discharge from the vehicle for 15 minutes before performing the next step.

Front Seats - Open the flap in the carpet on the floor at the front left of the driver's seat.
Figure 4

Front Seats - Open the flap in the carpet on the floor at the front left of the driver's seat. Remove the two wiring connections (red arrows) and disconnect the wiring harness from the clip (yellow arrow). Tilt the seat backwards and remove it from the vehicle.

Rear Arm Rest - Fold the arm rest up into the stowed position (red arrow).

Rear Arm Rest - Pull off the trim piece on the base of the arm rest. It is held in place by two clips on the bottom (red arrows) and two insert clips on the top (yellow arrows). It will just pull straight back and out.

Rear Arm Rest: Use a T30 Torx and remove the two Torx screws (red arrows).
