If you own a Porsche Cayenne with air suspension and are planning on lifting the vehicle for any reason you should know a few simple steps to help you avoid damaging it. The Cayenne air suspension system has built in sensors that try and maintain the vehicle on a level plane. Lifting one side or corner will cause confusion in the system, and it will automatically let the air out of the corner or side that is out of balance in order to try and "level" the vehicle out. This is normal under regular driving conditions but when lifting the Cayenne it can completely discharge all the air from one side or corner. When you lower it back down and the bag re-inflates, it can damage the bag.

In order to avoid this potential damage, you will need to disable the leveling system. Fortunately the process is simple and it only takes a minute to accomplish.

The Cayenne has a center control for raising or lowering the vehicle (red arrow).

To defeat the leveling system turn the ignition system on and push the height control all the way forward (red arrow) and hold it there until you here a beep.

When you hear the beep the light in the middle of the console should illuminate to Regulation Switched Off.
Figure 3

When you hear the beep the light in the middle of the console should illuminate to "Regulation Switched Off". This means the level regulator has been turned off and the vehicle will not try and automatically adjust for the raising or lowering of the vehicle.

If you do not defeat the leveling system you may or may not see the Warning Chassis System warning light.

If you do not defeat the leveling system you may or may not see the Warning Chassis System warning light. You can reduce the risk of damaging the air bag by gently lowering the vehicle when placing it back on the ground so the wheels are just touching the ground; start the Cayenne and let the air system re-inflate and then put the full weight on the wheels after the system is re-charged.
