While the Porsche Boxster's 996's and 997's are wonderful cars, they do have one frustrating problem that now has an extremely easy and inexpensive fix. That problem would be the inability to fully fill up your gas tank. This problem is more prevalent in areas like California with very tight EPA regulations regarding fuel vapor recapture at the gas pumps. The flaw with not being able to fully fill your tank without the shut off triggering at the pump is caused by a very restrictive area at the top of the filler neck. This can cause an increase in pressure and trigger the auto shut off on most fuel pump handles. Porsche has designed a simple and inexpensive fix to this problem with a plastic sleeve that fits right over the top of the factory filler neck. Installation will take you under 5 minutes and needs no tools at all. The ring is constructed of plastic and slips over the filler neck so do not try and install it if the piece and neck are below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

A common problem when filling up your vehicle in areas that have tight EPA or local regulations for vapor capture at the pumps is the inability to fully fill the tank due to the restrictive area between the filler neck and the fuel pump handle.

While some people have had success by turning the handle upside down, Porsche has developed a simple and inexpensive solution to the problem.

While some people have had success by turning the handle upside down, Porsche has developed a simple and inexpensive solution to the problem. Also it is messy and unsightly to be seen filling up your Porsche in this manner.

The solution to this problem is a Porsche designed plastic sleeve that fits right over the filler neck (red arrow).

The solution to this problem is a Porsche designed plastic sleeve that fits right over the filler neck (red arrow). This is a permanent solution that once installed remains in place.

The plastic sleeve has a flat side and a notched side (red arrow).

Simply use your hands and evenly push the sleeve over the factory filler neck until it seats on the ridge on the neck (red arrow).

Simply use your hands and evenly push the sleeve over the factory filler neck until it seats on the ridge on the neck (red arrow). This will increase the recirculation area in the neck and allow you to fully fill the tank. You only need to install this once and leave it on. The part allows the vehicle to be fully filled and will not cause any effect to the gas recirculation or vapor capture systems.

When the sleeve is installed it will sit slightly higher than the metal filler neck (red arrow).

The sleeve does not affect the performance of the gas cap.

The sleeve does not affect the performance of the gas cap. Once it is installed you will forget it is there and enjoy full tank fill-ups.

Comments and Suggestions:
Wyvern Comments: Living in Nor Cal this is going to really help on my Cayman . I am told some counties have a different setting on the fuel pumps and it is almost impossible to fill or at least challenging. If this works I my see if it will adapt to my motorcycles ...
