One often overlooked wear item on your car is the wiper blades. This is one of those things that can easily ruin your day if the weather suddenly turns bad. Replacement of the blade is very easy and should take no longer than 15 minutes.

If you live in a wet climate, then you'll understand the importance of wiper blades that work well. If running the wipers just streaks the windshield, it's time for new blades.

Lower quality blades tend to dry out or crack quicker than quality ones. Good blades are more expensive, but they last longer and do a nicer job of keeping the water off the windshield.

Depending on the year of your 993 there can be three wiper blades and all are changed in a similar manner. If someone has replaced the wiper arms then the procedures may be different. If your vehicle has different arms on it please share you experience with us below.

There are two windshield wipers on the front windshield.
Figure 1

There are two windshield wipers on the front windshield. You are going to be lifting them off of the glass to change the blades. If you drop the metal arm back onto the windshield while doing this job you will probably break the glass, so use care. If you are concerned about possible damage, put a piece of cardboard or a thick towel over the windshield while working

Pivot the wiper arm from the base until it stops in the up position approximately 90 degrees from the windshield.
Figure 2

Pivot the wiper arm from the base until it stops in the up position approximately 90 degrees from the windshield. Rotate the blade (red arrow) away from the arm and you will see a small tab (yellow arrow).

Press this tab and slide the blade down towards the windshield.
Figure 3

Press this tab and slide the blade down towards the windshield. If it is corroded use penetrating oil and wiggle it downward; the arms are not that strong and forcing it will just cause you to bend the wiper arm.

With the blade off you can see how the arm hooks on the end.
Figure 4

With the blade off you can see how the arm hooks on the end. Before installing the new blade clean up the arm and apply a little lubrication if needed (red arrow) and/or touch up the paint. Installation is the reverse of removal.
