Check your reverse bulbs

The taillights include the running lights, brake lights and turn signal bulbs. You should check these bulbs every three months and replace them as soon as they burn out. These types of bulbs usually just fail and do not give a warning that they are going bad by changing color, so make sure that you check them. If you can't get someone to help, just back-up the 993 close to a white wall at night and you should be able to test them by the reflection they give.

The bulbs sit in a taillight assembly that is glued together and there is no way to remove or replace the lens. This means if you crack the lens you will need to replace the assembly and it also mean that you need to remove the assembly to change the bulbs. While this seems like it might be an involved process it is shockingly easy.

Each taillight unit is held in place by a single Philips screw (red arrow) and sits in a channel in the reflector.

Each taillight unit is held in place by a single Philips screw (red arrow) and sits in a channel in the reflector. Use a Philips head screwdriver and remove the screw.

Do not try and pull the assembly straight back as it sits in a channel on the reflector (yellow arrow) so you need to pivot it outward from the front.

Once you pivot the assembly free of the reflector you can remove it.

It is a tight fit between some of the wiring connections on the back of the unit so rather than trying to separate the connections just turn the three bulb bases 45 degrees and pull the bulb, base and wiring from the housing (red arrows).

When removing the bases make sure to check on the condition of the O-ring that seals the base to the unit.

If you are replacing the assembly you can now just install the new one; if you are changing the bulbs make sure to also check the drain tube and make sure it is clear (yellow arrow).

The two larger bulbs are simple push and turn for replacement.

The single bulb simply pulls straight out and pushes straight in.
