When performing repairs on your W211 it is important to be able to identify standard items and optional features. Mercedes-Benz W211 models were option heavy due to being a higher-level model. In this tech article I will do my best to list each available item by model year breaks. I am going to list the standard options and the new options with the year they became available.

Remember that your car may have been serviced before and had parts replaced with different size fasteners used in the replacement. The sizes of the nuts and bolts we give may be different from what you have so be prepared with different size sockets and wrenches.

Protect your eyes, hands and body from fluids, dust and debris while working on your vehicle. If you're working with the electrical system, disconnect the battery before beginning. Always catch fluids in appropriate containers and properly dispose of any fluid waste. Recycle parts, packaging and fluids when possible. Never work on your vehicle if you feel the task is beyond your ability.

Our vehicle may vary slightly from yours as models do change and evolve, as they grow older. If something seems different, let us know and share your info to help other users. Do you have questions or want to add to the article? Leave a comment below. When leaving a comment, please leave your vehicle information.

Decoding your VIN

Your VIN (vehicle identification number) can be used to help purchase parts and identify vehicle options. The last seven numbers are all you need when ordering parts. However, it is important to know how to decode the entire VIN.

The VIN is located in many places.
Figure 1

The VIN is located in many places. Two reliable spots to read it are on the left lower corner of the dashboard (red arrow), looking through the windshield from outside the vehicle. Important VIN digit positions: The first 3 digits are the country of origin. Fourth and fifth positions are vehicle model. Position 6 is type of engine. The tenth digit of your VIN is vehicle model year. The last seven are the serial number.

The VIN is also located on the driver doorjamb, vehicle identification sticker (red arrow).
Figure 2

The VIN is also located on the driver doorjamb, vehicle identification sticker (red arrow). You can also find your tire information on a separate label in the doorjamb (yellow arrow). Use the vehicle identification sticker (inset) to locate your VIN (blue arrow) or the production date (green arrow).

Using the tire sticker (yellow arrow) on your driver doorjamb, locate the tire pressure specifications ( green arrows) as well as compatible tire size options.
Figure 3

Using the tire sticker (yellow arrow) on your driver doorjamb, locate the tire pressure specifications ( green arrows) as well as compatible tire size options. The model of your vehicle is also located on this sticker (blue arrow).

planefixer1 Comments: There is an "15 year, unlimited miles" extension of the warranty for this problem. most of the tanks developed cracks and seeping leaks. All you have to do is fill up the fuel tank and take it in to a dealer complaining of a strong smell of gasoline. They will replace the tank, lines, and wiring harness and other parts as needed like the pump and filter at no cost to you. If MB has you and your car in the data base you should have received a notice in the mail.
