If your map lights burn out on the upper console you can quickly and easily replace them, which is nice because the bulbs are the only elements in the console that can be replaced separately. Use care when working around your headliner. Do not touch the bulbs with your bare skin as the oils in your skin can cause hot spots on the bulb and diminish their life.

You are going to be gently prying out the upper console from the headliner (red arrow).

You are going to be gently prying out the upper console from the headliner (red arrow). Make sure you have the proper tools so you do not damage the headliner while doing this. If you are planning on doing any work on the interior of your Mercedes you should seriously consider getting a set of trim removal tools. Pelican sells them. They will pay for themselves many times over if you were to otherwise damage the interior while using a screwdriver to remove trim.

Working at the front of the console carefully pry down the unit releasing the two tabs that hold it in place (red arrows).

Rotate the front of the unit downward.
Figure 3

Rotate the front of the unit downward. It will hold in place on the two plastic hooks at the front of the assembly (red arrows). You do not need to fully remove the console to change the bulbs. You can get easy access to the two bulb holders (yellow arrow) while the unit is hanging from the hooks.

The bulb holders are simple twist/turn connections.
Figure 4

The bulb holders are simple twist/turn connections. There is no wiring connection you need to worry about as they make the electrical connection on the inside with the circuit board. Turn the bulb holder (red arrow) a quarter turn counter-clockwise.

Carefully remove the holder and bulb from the console.
Figure 5

Carefully remove the holder and bulb from the console.

The bulbs simply pull straight out from the holders.
Figure 6

The bulbs simply pull straight out from the holders. When replacing the bulbs make sure not to touch them with your bare skin or dirty gloves. Oils from your skin or on the gloves can cause hot spots on the bulbs and diminish their life. Installation is the reverse of removal.
