If you get a fix it ticket because one or both of your trunk license bulbs has burnt out don't pay someone else to fix it for you, you can do it yourself in under an hour and save all kinds of money. While you can remove the light assembly above the plate it can be difficult, and the retaining clips can sometime break. I recommend removing the trunk panel and changing out the bulbs from inside the trunk.

While there are two T20 Torx screws holding the light assembly in the trunk above the license plate (red arrows) if you need to replace the bulbs I do not recommend removing these.

While there are two T20 Torx screws holding the light assembly in the trunk above the license plate (red arrows) if you need to replace the bulbs I do not recommend removing these. The entire assembly can break the clips or damage the paint. Instead, remove the trunk panel and change out the bulbs in under an hour.

Open the trunk and remove the four T20 Torx screws on the trim piece (red arrows).

Pull the bulb base out from the assembly.
Figure 11

Pull the bulb base out from the assembly. The bulb is a wedge bulb. To replace it simply pull it straight out from the base and push the new one in. Never touch the glass of the bulb with your bare hands, as oils from your skin can cause hot spots and diminish the life of the bulb. Installation is the reverse of removal.
