If you are driving along and you lose one light bulb you can still drive safely until you get in repaired. If your headlight switch goes you may have no front lights, rear lights, marker lights or no lights at all. Luckily the head light switch is fairly simple to remove. In this tech article we will go over all the steps to remove the headlight switch.

In order to remove the headlight switch you will need to remove the left side lower panel. See our tech article on left side lower panel removal.

Use a rag to cover the headlight switch knob and grab it with a pair of pliers.

Remove the 25mm fastener (green arrow) with a socket. The fastener is not that tight. I was able to take mine off with just my hands.

With the fastener removed you can pull the headlight switch cover out of the dashboard.

Unseat the illumination light from the headlight switch cover. We had an after-market switch added to the cover. Your car will probably not have this additional switch and wiring in your cover.

Reach behind the dashboard from underneath and pull out the headlamp switch.

Reach behind the dashboard from underneath and pull out the headlamp switch. It will still be connected to the wiring harness, so you must pull it downward.

Unplug the electrical connector by grabbing both sides and pulling them apart.

Unplug the electrical connector by grabbing both sides and pulling them apart. There are no locking tabs to grab. Installation is the reverse of the removal steps. Plug in the new switch and then position it in the dashboard by reaching from underneath. Fit the headlight switch cover and install the fastener that holds the switch and cover in place. Push on the headlight switch knob and install the left side lower cover following the direction is the tech article on left side lower panel removal. Turn the ignition switch on and verify your lights work.
