One of the most basic repairs you can do to your vehicle is to change the air filter. Depending on your location and how much you drive you should replace your air filter at least once a year. You can also install foam reusable filters. If you already have them then you should remove, clean and re-oil them at least once a year. Your air filters filter out dirt and dust from entering your engine and cause excessive engine wear. A clogged air filter can also throw off your engine management feedback system and set diagnostic trouble codes. Severely clogged filters can also noticeable reduce engine performance. In this tech article we are going to show you how to replace your air filters.

In order to replace your air filters you are going to have to remove the engine cover/air filter housing. See our tech article on removing the engine compartment covers.

This photo illustrates the underside of the engine cover/air filter housing with it removed from the engine compartment.

There are two air filters on each side of the housing under the air filter covers (red arrows). Unclip the clips (green and yellow arrows) on each side of the cover/housing. Some of the clips are facing up (green arrows) and some clips are facing down (yellow arrows).

To unclip the spring clips position you finger on the tang (green arrow) and move it in the direction of the blue arrow until it unclips and is in its unlocked position (yellow arrow).
