If you have to remove the seats from your Mercedes W123 to replace them or service components beneath them, this tech article will show you how. I will break this article down into front and rear seats. Though there are a lot of options for different seats and configurations in the Mercedes W123, the procedures are basically the same. Our project car is a 300TD Wagon with standard seats.

Front Seats- Start by moving your seat as far forward and up as it will go.
Figure 1

Front Seats- Start by moving your seat as far forward and up as it will go. Get in the back seat and using a 10mm socket remove the two bolts holding the rear rail to the chassis (red arrows).

Front Seats- Next use a trim removal tool and remove the cover, then using a 10mm socket remove the anchor on the center tunnel (red arrow).

Front Seats- Move to the front and slide the seat all the way to the rear, this will allow you to access the two front mounting bolts (red arrows).

Front Seats- Carefully lean the seat back and disconnect any wiring connection between the seats and chassis (red arrow).

Figure 5

Front Seats- This would be a really good time to get in there and give the area under the seat a good cleaning

Rear Seat- There is a release at the side of the seats that will allow you to both fold the bottom of the seat forward and lower the rear upright section (in the wagon).

Rear Seat- There is a release at the side of the seats that will allow you to both fold the bottom of the seat forward and lower the rear upright section (in the wagon). Push down on the lever (red arrow) and fold the bench forward

Rear Seat- With the rear bench section forward, release the two safety tabs by pulling up on them and then lifting the seat cushion up.

Rear Seat- Once the seat is off the hinges you can remove it from the vehicle.

Rear Seat- Once the seat is off the hinges you can remove it from the vehicle.

Rear Seat- To remove the rear upper section first begin by removing the trim piece (red arrow) and then using a large Philips head screwdriver remove the three bolts (yellow arrows) and lift the back of the seat up and out.

Rear Seat- To remove the rear upper section first begin by removing the trim piece (red arrow) and then using a large Philips head screwdriver remove the three bolts (yellow arrows) and lift the back of the seat up and out. The bolts are put in at the factory with a locking compound on them so you may need to use an impact screwdriver to get them out if they have never been removed
