License Plate Light Replacement

Parts Required:

Replacement bulb and, or housing

Hot Tip:

Remove the inner trunk-lid access plate

Complementary Modification:

Replace the center-mounted brake light

Often, we don't know that license plate lights aren't working until a friend following us (or law enforcement) alerts us to the fact. Replacing the bulbs can be accomplished in a few minutes. Popping out the light housings doesn't take much longer.

The cover plate inside the trunk lid must be removed.

The cover plate inside the trunk lid must be removed. Three plastic rivets (yellow arrows) hold it on. Gently pry out the rivets' center pins, then remove their bodies.

Once the cover plate is removed, the bulb (yellow arrow) can be lifted out of their mounts and replaced.

The wires (yellow arrows) can be pulled off the housing either from inside the trunk or after the housing is unclipped from the car.

The exterior handle strip's center nut (yellow arrow) is removed from inside the trunk.

Each housing has two plastic clips that secure it to the trunk.

Inspect the gasket for tears and replace if necessary.
