Use this article to modify service intervals

BMW service and maintenance includes Engine Oil Service, Inspection 1 (or Service 1) and Inspection 2 (or Service 2). In this article, I'll explain what these terms mean when servicing your BMW X3. Service intervals and maintenance items are based on mileage driven, elapsed time since the last service, fuel usage, engine temperature and number of engine starts. This service schedule is a good guideline for maintaining your BMW X3.

When you switch the ignition ON or start the engine, the Service Indicator Display (SIA) in the lower half of the speedometer briefly displays the next service due with the message OIL SERVICE or INSPECTION. The distance remaining till the required service (in miles or kilometers) is also displayed. If the distance flashes and displays a minus sign in front, that means that the service interval has been exceeded.

Inspection 1 and Inspection 2 are specific service requirements depending on the mileage and service indicated in your instrument cluster. Service Inspections alternate: Inspection 1 comes first, followed by Inspection 2, then back to Inspection 1. Inspection 1 tasks are performed at every service; when you reach Inspection 2, you perform the tasks related to an Inspection 1 and the additional Inspection 2 tasks. These service intervals are performed when INSPECTION is displayed in the cluster. The first Inspection 1 is usually around 30,000 miles and the first Inspection 2 is around 60,000 miles.

Other items serviced at specific mileage intervals are: 60,000 miles spark plugs and 100,000 oxygen sensors. Every two years brake fluid. One item on BMW SAV models you want to keep in mind is: transfer case fluid. This should be replaced whenever the warning light comes on with a fluid fault code, or to prevent the warning light from coming on we suggest every 60,000 miles.

When you switch the ignition ON or start the engine, the Service Indicator Display (SIA) in the lower half of the speedometer briefly displays the next service due with the message OIL SERVICE or INSPECTION.
