If your front windows are starting to make funny noises when you put them up or down, binding or not running smoothly all the way through the range of motion there is a good chance your window regulators are starting to fail. It is a good idea to replace the regulator before it fails completely because there is no way to get the window back up into the closed position once it fails short of replacing the regulator.

Unlike a lot of other vehicles, the window regulator is attached to the window frame or door component carrier and the entire frame assembly must be removed to replace the regulator. This is not a hard job but it does involve a lot of steps.

To begin you will need to remove the door panel and the door component carrier. Please see our article on removing your front door panel and component carrier and complete the work there before starting this project.

With the entire door component carrier removed you will be looking at the window frame, glass, regulator and mirror.

With the window up begin by unclipping the regulator cable from the bottom of the window frame (red arrow).

Next slide the glass down in the window frame (red arrow).

Next slide the glass down in the window frame (red arrow). You are going to removing the clips where the glass attaches to the regulator (yellow arrows) and remove the glass and this is easier to do when the window is lower in the frame.

Use a T25 Torx and remove the screw and large washer from each regulator clip (red arrow).

The new regulator will come with a zip tie on it (red arrow); do NOT cut this zip tie until the regulator is installed in the door.
