The 911/912 era began in 1963 with the introduction of the Porsche 901, which embodied a radical change in the body style and a change to a more powerful 6-cylinder engine. Interestingly, the 901 was introduced at about the same time as the 356-C Porsches. The 901 designation, as illustrated in the first 900 series brochure, didn’t last long. In October 1964, the designation number was changed to 911 because of a dispute with Peugeot, the French automaker, who won a court ruling to use the number series because of their historic use of two numbers separated by a zero (301, 401, 601, etc.)

The subsequent period of time between 1965 and 1966 was one of the most prolific periods for the publication of new 911 and 912 sales brochures. Shown below are numerous brochures from this period in which new brochures came out about every three months.

911 & 912 (1965-1969)

Early 901 Brochure
This double folder is the first of the 900 series brochures and is the predecessor to the 911. Early 911 Brochure
Early 911 (Typ 911): Cover is red, white and blue with a picture of the front of the new 911. This 12 page brochure includes lots of art drawings of the new 911 together with technical information and a description of the new 6 cylinder motor and the five speed transmission. Fairly common brochure, but a nice colorful addition to any collection. [smaller size pic]

Early 911 Brochure
Early 911 ("911"): Cover has red/orange coupe under grey "911" in 3-inch letters on a maroon and white background. This 12 page brochure utilizes actual pictures inside as opposed to art drawings, is all color, and covers the 911 only.  Nice technical section on back cover. Brochure is rarer than most early 911/912 stuff, and was published in March 1965. [smaller size pic]

"911 Red Coupe"
This color double folder was published in August 1965, and is unusual in that it was printed in three languages (English, French and German).  Inside are some nice color and black and white pictures of the car, along with a smaller set of pictures showing the front, rear, dash, interior, trunk, and engine compartment, along with line drawings of the engine, brakes, front suspension, and new five speed transmission. Fairly common but a nice addition to any collection. Size is 8 by 9 inches.  [smaller size pic]

"Porsche of America 911 Brochure"
This simple folder, published by Porsche of America and printed in the USA features the new Porsche 911. While not dated, it was probably printed sometime in 1995. Cover is mostly white with a red band on the right and a Porsche chrest in the middle....with the line: "6-Cylinder - 2 Liter-2+2 - Coupe". Inside are black and white pictures with technical information on the back. Size is 8 x 11 inches.  [smaller size pic]

"The 911/912 Targa"
This double folder was printed in September 1965 in Germany, and features the "Targa" (essentially a cabriolet with a built in rollbar).  The cover shows a full side view of a green targa. Inside are individual pictures showing the top and back window assemblies in 4 different configurations. The text is in three languages (French, English, & German). Back cover is information about the 911 and 912 versions of the "Targa". Sixe is 8 x 9 . A simple folder, but a must for an early Targa owner.  [smaller size pic]

"The Orange 911 Brochure"
This 12 page 911 brochure is particularly nice. All color with some great color pictures inside. Printed in Germany in November 1965, this item is less common than most, and hence more collectable. Inside are some great pictures of the 911 interior and dashboard. Also some nice line drawings of the steering, suspension, and braking systems. Technical data on the back cover. [smaller size pic]

The White 912 Brochure
This double folder with a white 912 on a blue background on the cover was published in April 1965. Text is in three languages, English, French & German and most of the pictures are in color with technical information on the back cover.  Fairly common brochure, but a nice item for a early 912 owner.  [smaller size pic]

The Red 911S (in a wheel) Brochure
This item is a "triple" folder (opens left, then opens right, then opens top). Opens to 16 in x 33 in.   All color, inside red 911S coupe (notice alloy wheels rather than chome wheels for earlier 911’s), and lots of really nice color pictures. Brochure printed in Germany in September 1966.  Relatively tough item to find. [smaller size pic]

The Blue & Red 912 Brochure
This is an 8 page brochure published in November 1965.  Fairly common. Blue/Red 912 on white background on cover, inside lots of color pictures and technical information.  Back cover has technical information.  [smaller size pic]
