The Competition Motors Brochure

Type 356 Specifications  (M&M 20)* Side 1 / Side 2
This 356 Pre-A black and white folder of specifications was probably published in 1953 since it also includes on the back cover the race victories for 1952. Black and white cover, inside two pages are all specifications. No printing date or printing number. A French language version has the words: Prestige, Puissance (Power), and Perfection in white letters on the cover. Be careful when buying one of these........there have been some pretty good reproductions printed. Folded, it measures 4 x 8 inches. Images show (1) front and back cover, and (2) inside two pages.  [smaller size: side 1 / side 2]

The First Porsche Color Brochure  (M&M 11)*
This is probably the first Porsche color sales brochure. It is actually a 4 page single folder measuring 8 in. x 11 11/16 in. folded. Notice "PORSCHE" across the bottom of the cover.  This brochure predates the introduction of Porsche’s famous stylistic lettering (elongated). Inside are line drawings of the chassis and a line drawing of a side view of a 356 Pre-A coupe. Back cover shows a water color of a reddish/orange coupe along with technical specifications.  Maximum speed is noted as 85 mph. A nice early Porsche brochure.  [smaller size pic]

The Yellow TYP 356 Coupe Brochure (M&M 15)*
The second full line color brochure (double folder) published in early 1952. This cover is another example of a handsome rendering by graphic designer Eric Strenger, whose signature is in the lower right hand corner. The folder is done in yellows and browns, and features a bent window 356 yellow Coupe on the cover. Size is 11 1/2 x 8 1/4 in.  [smaller size pic]

Blue Circle of Coupes Brochure (M&M 65)*
This brochure is a double folder for the 356 Pre-A cars and was published in several versions during 1953 and 1954. Interestingly, one version shows a circle of coupes on a blue background, the other version shows the same circle of coupes on a green background.  Inside are technical information, references to VW's and the Auto Union race cars, along with pictures of Dr. Porsche and Ferry Porsche. Back cover is a black and white shot of a Pre-A coupe on a golf course.  [smaller size pic]

The Speedster Brochure (M&M 75)*
The most highly collectable and well known Speedster brochure produced in August 1954. This is the classic Speedster double folder with the sky blue cover, "The Speedster" across the top in red and white, and a picture of a 356 Speedster (top down) in scales of gray at the bottom. Folded size is 9 3/8 in x 8 7/16 in.  [smaller size pic]

356 Speedster Brochure
This little black and white Speedster folder (Pre-A) was published 1954. Cover shows a front view of a 356 Speedster, inside a listing of racing victories and another neat Speedster picture, and specifications on the back cover. Brochure size is 4 /12 x 8 inches folded. This is another brochure that is frequently REPRODUCED. (These images are of a reproduction, can you tell?) Two images: (1) front and rear, and (2) middle two pages.  [smaller size pic]

Type 356 Coupe Color Sheet (M&M 56)* Side 1 / Side 2
This single sheet flyer for the 356 (Pre-A) coupe is part of a series of four single sheets flyers featuring: (1) Typ 356 Coupes on a blue background, (2) Typ 356 cabriolets on a "pea" green background, (3) Typ 356 Speedsters(Pre-A) on a purple background, and (4) Spyder, Typ 550/1500 RS on a salmon colored background. Fronts show the cars, while the backs show other views and technical information. A nice collectable set....with the Speedster probably being the most popular. Series 1600, 356-A (M&M 96)*  Side 1 / Side 2
Bright red single folder (4 pages) which shows the entire line (Coupe, Convertible, Speedster, 550 Spyder & Carrera) was probably published in the US. A nice collectible piece, fairly common and available, but a nice addition to a collection or to have for your 356-A 1600. (Cover and page 3 frame up nicely together!). size folded is 7 1/16 in. x 10 11/16 in.  [smaller size: side 1 / side 2]

The Carrera 57 Brochure (M&M 127)*
"The Carrera 57 Brochure," published in 1957, is perhaps the most beautiful sales brochure produced by Porsche during the 356 years. This brochure was for a 356-A 1500 Carrera GS/GT with a "modern art" oil painting cover in reds, blues & black, designed by Eric Strenger. Size is 8 3/16 x 11 1/8 inches.

Convertible D Rainbow Brochure (M&M 147)*
There are a number of versions for this brochure for the transition car between the basic 356-A Speedster and the later 356-B Roadster known as the Convertible D (a 356-A). The covers of all 3 versions are exactly the same. The differences are mostly in what is written inside. Two versions talk about the "Convertible D", while a third version version discusses the "Convertible." Other minor differences can be found in the three versions. Two versions were printed in 8/58 and 10/58. The third version, believed to be earlier, is undated. There may be other versions.  [smaller size pic]

The Red Coupe with Black VW Brochure (M&M 214)*
This brochure was produced in early 1962 for the introduction of the 356-B T-6 which can easily be identified by the squared curve of the front hood, drum brakes, and the gas filler opening on the top of the passenger side front fender. The brochure features a 5 in round hole showing the red Porsche coupe and black VW on the inside page.  Inside are the usual full line pictures, technical information and a neat picture of a red 356-B coupe in front of a Pan American Boeing 707 jet plane. [smaller size pic]

Carrera 2 Brochure (M&M 233)*
This 4 page folder is devoted entirely to the 356-B Carrera 2 and was published in 1962. It has a straight-on front view of the car, with data and specs inside, and a picture of the 4-cam engine. Back page is technical data in 3 languages. The Carrera 2 brochure is a tough brochure to find, and an excellent addition to any collection of Porsche 356 literature. Size is 8 1/4 in x 11 11/16 in.   [smaller size pic]

356-C (1964-1965)

Porsche Pic

Driving in its Purest Form (M&M 251)*
Early 356-C brochure, perhaps the first, was published in September 1963 for the 1964 model year. Cover is bright red with a gloved hand to the right. Inside are numerous pictures of the coupe, cabriolet, and cabriolet with hardtop. Also inside is a listing of accessories and a description of the new disc brakes. There is an interesting mention of "undercoating" as an other accessory. Size is 8 in x 11 in.  Item is fairly tough to find...makes a good collectable for the owner of a 356-C Porsche.  [smaller size pic]

Porsche 356C (M&M 257*) Side 1 / Side 2
This 12 page 356-C brochure was printed in Germany but isn’t dated. It is all color, and contains lots of beautiful pictures of coupes, cabriolets, etc.  There’s a technical data section on the inside back cover. Cover is all white with a cut-out window showing the back of a white coupe on the first inside page. Nice brochure. Shown here are the cover, and the inside first page.  [smaller size: side 1 / side 2]

356-C Ken Purdy Brochure
This "odd" brochure (sometimes magazine insert), was printed in the USA probably in 1964 by Porsche of America Corp. It consists of a full color folder, with a 12 page black and white insert stapled inside titled: "The Porsche Story" by Ken Purdy. The insert details the history of Porsche and includes some technical information for the 356-C’s. The odd aspect of the brochure is that many of the color pictures are actually 356-B’s with the "C" changes airbrushed in. These changes include the hubcaps, which are different on C’s, and the "C" script on the rear.   [smaller size pic]

356C Brochure (M&M 273*)
Published in Germany in 1964, this 12 page all color sales brochure shows the full line of 356-C Porsches. Inside are some beautiful pictures of coupes and cabriolets, a listing of standard equipment and accessories, and technical information about the "C" engine and the new disc. brakes. Nice collectable brochure for any "C" owner.  [smaller size pic]

* "M&M" (Miller & Merritt) refers to the book: PORSCHE: Brochures and Sales Literature, A Source Book, 1948-1965, by Richard F. Merritt and Susann C. Miller, 312 pages, soft cover, 1978. (The number after M&M is the page number in the book)
