My battery is in under the hood. Put the battery mat thinking it would be a good cushion and the paint in the battery tray. After about a year, swapped batteries and there was pretty severe rust under the mat area likely moisture trapping!! I dont really see a need to use this product for what its advertised in addition to the increased corrosion risk.
Followup from the Pelican Staff: I'm guessing that it might have gotten wet at one time. The mat only works in dry environments, so make sure all hood seals are good and watertight...

A piece-of-mind investment
I have put these in all of my vehicles for several years. Great product.

Time Will Tell
There was some corrosion in the tray when I replaced the original battery in my E46 convertible, so I thought I'd give this a try. The mat is a tiny bit short for my new battery, so next time I'd try the larger size and trim it. In any case, it had to be trimmed for width in the tray. On the mat, the battery sits just enough higher that the hold down clamp screw could not engage the threads in the battery tray, but when I removed the lock washer between the clamp and the shoulder of the screw, the problem was solved.

Corrosion is the enemy
With a convertible you have to be extra aware of corrosion. The fit right in the box with slight trim on long side. Get one!
