Flywheel Bolts

These should be replaced every time that the flywheel is replaced, since they are under a tremendous amount of pressure for most of their lives. Be careful when removing the old ones. If they strip, then you might have to grind them off, possibly destroying your flywheel, and possibly melting your flywheel seal in one big expensive operation.

Flywheel Pilot Bearings

This bearing acts as a guide for the drive shaft of the transmission. Every complete clutch job should include a replacement of this flywheel bearing. Bearing failures can lead to significant damage to the transmission drive shaft. Under extreme circumstances, the high friction created by a pilot bearing failure can actually weld the driveshaft to the flywheel while the car is running!

Flywheel Seals (Rear Main Seal)

The Flywheel Seal, also known by many as the notorious Rear Main Seal (RMS), is known to be a weak leak in the drive train of the normally-aspirated 996 - causing oil residue to seep and eventually leak out into undercarriage and garage floor. It is HIGHLY recommended that you replace this seal if you notice even the smallest amount of oil seeping out between the transmission housing and the engine block. In some rare cases the RMS has been known to fail more than once in less than 10,000 miles of driving. If you are tackling a clutch job, you should definitely consider replacing this seal while you're in there.

Clutch Master/Slave Cylinders

Is your clutch release not working as well as you'd like it to? Are you a slave to your worn out cylinders? Get control with a replacement master or slave clutch cylinder. Replacing the slave cylinder is a good idea when you are performing a clutch job. With a relatively low cost, the insurance of replacing it when you're performing a big clutch job is well worth the cost.
