Tie rods can be damaged by running over curbs or simply wear out with age. Replace yours with a new inner or outer or both, and eliminate that 'loosey-goosey' steering, use the old one to flog the curb that you hit.

| CV Joint Boots & Hardware | CV Boot cracked or leaking? Replace it with a new one and keep dirt, debris and small animals out of your CV joints! The replacement process is the same as if you were removing an entire CV joint. In fact, you need to remove the joint in order to replace the boot. If you are not going to be replacing the joint, then make sure you place it in a plastic bag to avoid getting any dirt or debris in there. Check the CV joints for wear when you change the boots, and replace the joints if they are wobbly or show signs of wear. Large balls falling out of the joint when you release it are usually a bad sign. (This actually happened to Wayne)...

Note that 911 Carrera models switched to different bolts in the middle of production year 2002. The following chassis numbers can be used as a guide:
Carrera 2/4 Coupes with chassis # before 992S6.21917 should use bolts described to fit 1999-2002.
Carrera 2/4 Targas with chassis # before 992S6.35311 should use bolts described to fit 1999-2002.
Carrera 2/4 Cabriolet with chassis # before 992S6.52779 should use bolts described to fit 1999-2002.
Also note that Boxster models 2003-04 may either be equipped with 8mm or 10mm diameter bolts. Please be sure to verify bolt size before ordering. |
