Intermediate Shaft Retrofit Kits |
WARNING: Your Intermediate Shaft Bearing (IMS) could be failing! There are not many warning signs of an impending IMS failure short of a "death rattle" that occurs as the bearing fails and comes apart. If caught early enough, a leak at the IMS hub flange may be signs of a failing bearing, but can be improperly identified as a rear main seal (RMS) leak at times. If doing a RMS, it's recommended to do an Intermediate Shaft Bearing (IMS) retrofit at the same time, as the majority of the labor is identical to that of performing the RMS service.

LN Engineering's single and dual row IMS Retrofit Kits are designed to replace the original bearings with like sizes and with similar load ratings, without engine disassembly. Their kits replace the factory sealed bearing with a new, severe duty custom ceramic hybrid roller ball bearing for reduced friction and superior performance in poorly lubricated operating conditions and replaces the factory IMS flange hub, bearing support, and fastener with a stronger, revised billet chromoly assembly.
Single or Dual Row? Typically, 99% of models from 1997-99 have dual row, and 99% of models from 2002-05 have single row - figures are estimated. Models from 2000 and 2001 are the most unpredictable, and require inspection to determine the bearing type. For complete information about Intermediate Shaft Bearing (IMS) identification and failure, read our Technical Article and also visit LN Engineering's IMS page.
NOTE: Use of the appropriate IMS Bearing Puller (sold separately) is highly recommended for proper extraction of the IMS Bearing without any damag to the engine or intermediae shaft. |
