Brake Booster |
The brake booster is a particularly expensive piece to replace. There is only one manufacturer of these, and they price them in the stratosphere. The good news is that these don't usually need to be replaced. Used on the power brake cars, they accept a vacuum hose from the engine manifold, and use that vacuum pressure to assist in the movement of the master cylinder. Be very careful when reattaching the brake booster to the master cylinder. Using too much torque can damage the delicate booster housing, and render it useless.

| Brake Booster Seal Modification for Pre-2000 Boxsters |
Due to a modification in the body firewall, the brake booster bellows and seal at the body firewall were changed during model year 2000. The replacement brake booster is available only with the later style bellows. The vehicles that will require modification when replacing the brake booster were produced before September 13, 1999, starting with the following VIN numbers:- 98 XYS 62 0332 (Boxster)
- 98 XYS 66 0090 (Boxster S)
- 98 4YU 62 1423 (Boxster)
- 98 4YU 66 0106 (Boxster S)
In order to install the brake booster on an earlier car, order the brake booster and the following four parts. |
