For the most reliable of rebuilds, replace your pistons and cylinders with new ones. If you are reusing your old ones, make sure that you have them checked at a good machine shop to make sure that the ring grooves are not worn. Also, the inside of the cylinders should be honed. Failure to do so may result in a new set of rings not seating properly. Our original New German pistons and cylinders come complete with wrist pins and clips. The European pistons have a higher compression ratio resulting in about a 6% increase in horsepower. For more info on the differences between the USA and European Pistons, see our Q&A section. Brand: Genuine Porsche [More Info] | No Longer Available | | LN Engineering's Nickies Cylinders | LN Engineering's Nickies cylinders look great and perform even better. They are machined out of a specially extruded alloy that is up to 50% stronger, 45% more thermally conductive, and much less brittle than the alloys used by Mahle for cast factory cylinders. With 6.5 fins per inch versus the typical 4 fins per inch on cast cylinders, a phenomenal 60% increase of surface area is achieved providing improved heat transfer. Nickel-silicon-carbide (known as Nikasil), which has a reputation for providing hundreds of thousands of miles of worry-free service, adheres excellently to this alloy, giving top-notch reliability. The finished product is media blasted and acid etched to roughen the surface, further increasing cooling ability by increasing air turbulence. All of these improvements and they weigh less too! Why go back to factory when you can build a cooler-running and more durable engine instead!
