Loctite Red 271
The red Loctite compound essentially glues the bolts together, and virtually eliminates the chances of them backing out. Be careful only to use a small bead - too much Loctite on the flywheel bolts can actually prevent them from seating properly. Ironically, this can cause the bolts to fall out later on - exactly what you were trying to prevent by using the Loctite in the first place!

Lubro Moly Engine Assembly Lube
The Lubro-Moly formulation is a bit thicker than others, which means it's easier to spread, and creates less of a mess. It comes in a 3.5 ounce tube, and one of these should be more than enough for a single 911 engine rebuild.

Plastigage
Plastigage provides a fast and accurate way to check bearing clearances. Plastigage is a special extruded plastic thread of a definite diameter with accurately controlled crush properties. The material is round, smooth and flexible through a wide range of temperatures. Extreme cold will make it somewhat brittle and heat will soften the material. However, Plastigage remains usable and accurate through all normal atmospheric variations of temperature and humidity in work areas where bearing clearances may be checked.

Tools

If you are opting to save money by working on your car yourself, it is a very wise investment to have the proper tools. Some tasks may be nearly impossible to perform without the specific tool designed to assist you in the process. Don't cheap out - you're saving money by doing it yourself. Do it right with the right tools. Some tools may be special order, and may take a few days to be shipped out.
Porsche Engine Rebuild Stand
Planning on rebuilding your engine? You shouldn't even think of it without the proper engine stand. There are cheap, generic engine stands available that will fit your engine with a bit of modifications, but in order to have a firm support of the entire weight of the motor, you should use one specifically designed for the case itself. This fixture is made of heavy-duty steel, and has five arms that can support the full weight of even a complete 930 motor with fuel injection and exhaust!

This engine holding fixture can be used with the yokes on most regular engine stands, or you can use the Heavy Duty Clamp which will allow you to bolt the stand to a sturdy (very, very sturdy) table top. The diameter of the shaft is 60mm.

This engine holding fixture will fit any model 911, 912, 356, 930, 914 and any air-cooled VW engine.

This Engine Stand Adapter Ring will easily bolt onto any universal engine stand, using four 3/8" bolts, giving you a safe and easy way to work on any 356 to 930 Porsche engine. This is a very heavy-duty piece that is machined from solid steel, with all the right notches and relief angles to accommodate all Porsche and VW air cooled engines.
