When performing a tune-up, you should always replace your cap, rotor, and points. If your points are pitted or not functioning properly, this may indicate that your condenser has failed as well. For complete information on adjusting the points and timing on the 914, see our Pelican Technical Article, Adjusting Dwell and Timing on the 914.

Crane® Optical Ignition |
Crane® XR700 Optical Ignition
This electronic ignition unit is sometimes referred to as the industry upgrade standard. The Allison/Crane unit works on an optical light sensor and detector, and eliminates the need for dwell adjustment. Once the engine timing is set, it should hold for an extended period of time. The result is better performance, and better fuel efficiency, as you can be assured that your car is running at peak performance. Crane/Allison systems are bolt-in replacements and can be used easily with the stock ignition system. Installs in less than 1 Hour. Pelican Recommended among electronic ignition systems. click here to visit the Crane Ignition website.

XR3000 is the high performance version of the XR700. It also is 50 States Legal and very easy for the DIY to install with immediate results. The most obvious benefits are: All new status LED light for easy diagnostics, 150% greater spark gap energy over stock points ignition, Uses a high output coil without ballast resistor and an Optical trigger for precise ignition timing accuracy. This kit converts points type distributor to electronic ignition and is fully sealed for protection from dirt, moisture and vibration. SMT (Surface Mount Technology) is utilized for reduced size and greater reliability at the same time offers Short circuit protection. NOTE: LX91 E-coil is recommended for use with this kit as the Bosch Blue coil has an internal ballast resistor which cannot be used with the XR3000 ignition. Must use part number PEL-SW730-0891 Coil Wire Kit shown below.
