Shift Bushings

Worn shift bushings are often responsible for sloppy shifting on older cars. They often wear out, or even fall out completely, leaving the shifter guessing at where the gears are. For more information on improving the shifting of your 911, see our Pelican Parts Technical Article on Shifting Improvements.
Shift Bushing Kit
Tighten it all up with a Pelican Parts shifter bushing kit. This kit includes all of the bushings that eventually wear out and give your 911/911 Turbo or 912E that sloppy shifting feeling. Kit includes a new Ball Cup bushing, Shift Rod bushing, and a pair of Shift Coupler Bushings. See this technical article for detailed instructions on bushing replacement and shifter adjustments. Check out this technical article, which details several easy procedures for improving how your car shifts.

Shifter Bushings
Is your 911 shifting sloppily? Most likely you need to replace your ball cup bushing, or your shift coupler bushings (see above). The ball cup bushing is located underneath the shifter, and the shift rod bushing is located behind it. Both are accessible by removing the shifter mechanism from the floor of the car.

Shift Couplers

Replacement of the coupler or bushings is easy. Simply remove the access panel behind the rear seats, or jack the car up and get at them from underneath. While you're at it, check the condition of the protective coupler boots, and also the coupler cone set screws. You can replace the shift bushings by pressing out the large pin in the center of the coupler (be careful not to bend the aluminum housing). Our coupler bushings fit snugly around the shaft, unlike the factory bushings that allow a specific amount of free play.
