Your 911's interior is one of the most visible parts of the car. Heck, it's what you look at every day when you are driving your baby. Restoring your interior is one of the easier tasks to perform on the 911, and also one of the most rewarding. We've organized this section so that you can find any part that you need for your complete interior restoration. One of the most important components of your car is your seat belts. Belts have a tendency to wear out after many years of use. The belt itself can become worn or begin to tear from repeated friction with the upper joint attached to the pillar of the car. Wearing of the belt can cause it to perform less than admirably in an accident - something that you do not want to happen. Additionally, the belt return spring has a tendency to become stretched over many years of use, and does not pull the belt back into the mechanism. This is a common problem that cannot be easily repaired. In fact, you should never attempt to open your own seat belt mechanism. The spring inside is tightly wound, and will fly out at a great velocity if you don't know what you are doing. The spring is a constant-force spring that has very sharp edges, and can easily cut you as it's flying out.

Also, if your car has been in any type of accident, you should replace the seat belts if they were in use at the time of the accident. The fabric of the belts is designed to stretch and deform under a large load (as in an accident), and relieve some of the stresses placed on the passenger. The seat belt does not spring back to its original form, and in this 'stretched' state provides significantly less protection. If you have been involved in an accident, insist that the insurance company replace the seat belts. They probably won't suggest this as it will cost them more money, but they also probably will not protest your request either because they are aware of the one-time-use characteristics of the belts.

Replacement of the front belts is quick and easy. Simply remove the side panel of your 911, and unbolt the seat belt from the side of the car. Remove the other two mounting points, and install the new belt mechanism in place. Make sure that you keep all the little washers and covers in their proper order as you reinstall the plate. New seat belts are available only as a preassembled mechanism: spring-loaded canister, and the actual belt. New belt hardware has been superceded over the years and the new pieces may look slightly different from the originals.

Note that the seat belt mechanism for the early cars has been superceded to a later-style, and may require that you use slightly different seat belt trim covering. Please check the images before ordering.
