They are machined out of a specially extruded aluminum alloy that is up to 50% stronger, 45% more thermally conductive, and much less brittle than the alloys used by Mahle for cast aluminum cylinders. When compared to cast iron cylinders, Nickies cool over 4x better! With 6.5 fins per inch versus the typical 4 fins per inch on cast cylinders, a phenomenal 60% increase of surface area is achieved providing improved heat transfer. Nickies are plated with Nickel-silicon-carbide (known as Nikasil), which has a reputation for providing hundreds of thousands of miles of worry-free service and comes with a lifetime warranty. All surfaces are acid etched to increase surface area, further increasing cooling ability by increasing air turbulence.
