Engine Rebuild Materials
Using the proper materials is vital to leak-free engine. While there are many different combinations of materials that you can use, Wayne recommends the ones listed here. They have proven themselves to be worthy enough to stand the test of time, and provide years of leak-free service.

Loctite 574 Case Sealant
The Loctite 574 sealant is an orange gooey sealant that cures in the absence of air. When you assemble your case and mate the case halves, you will have some squeeze-out that will collect at the case halves. If you leave this excess sealant exposed to the air, you will find that it will not harden. While this may cause you some head scratching, you shouldnt be concerned, as the sealant is designed to seal within tight clearances, and between metal surfaces. Despite the fact that it appears that the Loctite 574 is not curing because the squeeze-out has not hardened, it has in fact properly sealed between your two case halves.

Liqui Moly Anti-Seize Compound
Anti-seize compound is used to help prevent galling of steel studs under extreme heat conditions. Studs that are particularly vulnerable to galling are the exhaust and head studs. I recommend using anti-seize on your head studs and exhaust studs during the rebuild process.
It is important to note that Porsche doesnt recommend the use of anti-seize compound on spark plugs, as detailed in Porsche Technical Bulletin 9102, Group 2, identifier 2870. The bulletin applies retroactively to all Porsche models and the theory is that the anti-seize tends to act as an electrical insulator between the plug and the cylinder head. This could have detrimental effect on the firing of the spark due to the loss of a good, consistent ground connection. |

Loctite RTV Silicone
Black Loctite 598 is an OEM-grade high-temp silicone that is useful for sealing the small o-rings on the case through-bolts. The black color will blend in easily with your case, and will provide added protection against leaks at this interface. Temperature range is -75°F to 625°F (-59°C to 329°C) intermittent. Low odor, non-corrosive, low volatility. Resistant to most chemicals and solvents. Fills gaps to 0.25".

Grey Loctite high-temp silicone is formed in place, allowing it to fill all those little nicks and scratches in mating surfaces once it's cured. Ideal for high-torque applications. Temperature range is -75°F to 625°F (-59°C to 329°C) intermittent. Excellent fluid resistance. Easy to dispense, non-corrosive, low odor, low volatility.

Curil-T Sealant
Curil-T is a good, thin sealant that I use as an extra precaution against oil leaks when installing some seals. You will want to spread it around on a few of the seals and gaskets during the rebuild process.

JB Weld
There are several spots on the case where an original bonding/sealing agent was placed. These are the places where a factory dowel pin or plug has been inserted into the case. JB Weld is an excellent heavy-duty epoxy that can be used to replace the dabs of factory epoxy that help seal some of these areas of the case and chain housings.

Kimwipes Cleanroom Cloths
These are lint-free, dust-free cloths that will not leave any fibers that can clog tiny oil passages. The 911 engine can only be improved by such close attention to cleanliness and detail. Before each part is assembled, wipe it down one last time with isopropyl alcohol to remove any dust or dirt.
