Installation Information

Street Performance/Track Tuned (S/T) - Performance Brake pad Installation – Suggested Guidelines

Brake pads should only be replaced by those with the necessary expertise.

1) Do not allow the friction material to come in contact with any oils, greases, lubricants or mineral based cleaning agents which could lead to a brake failure.

2) Do not allow brake fluid to come in contact with painted surfaces as damage to painted surfaces may result

3) Follow all original equipment manufacturers instructions related to brake pad replacement.

4) Once old brake pads are removed, use proper techniques and tools to retract the piston into the caliper housing. Carefully inspect the caliper assembly for damage or worn parts that may require replacement. Inspect for fluid leakage.

5) Clean all caliper brake pad contact and sliding surfaces with a wire (brass) brush to remove rust and contamination.

6) All contact and sliding surfaces should be lubricated with special high temperature grease intended for this specific application prior to reassembly.

7) Inspect the rotor surface for wear, grooving or lips on the outer edge. Rotors must be flat and smooth with no grooves or lips and be above the minimum thickness marked on the rotor. Rotors may be machined when possible or replaced with new parts (recommended).

8) Install rotors, brake pads into calipers and caliper assemblies as per manufacturer’s requirements and observing torques specified. Rotor surface should be cleaned with a product such as brake clean to remove any remaining contaminates. It is recommended that wear sensors be replaced as well.

9) Once all components are fully assembled, the brake system must be properly bled to remove air from the system. This is a good opportunity to flush or replace the brake system with new brake fluid or to upgrade to a performance brake fluid with higher boiling temperatures and improved performance, especially for track usage. Follow the recommended procedures from the manufacturer and make sure that the fluid from the ABS system has been purged and that no leaks are present.

10) The vehicle should be test driven to ensure proper brake performance. The new brakes will require proper bedding to accomplish full braking capabilities. It may be necessary to re-bleed the braking system after test driving if the function does not seem proper or if the brake pedal is not firm or has excessive travel.

11) If new rotors have been installed, bedding may take longer for the transfer of friction material onto the new rotor surface.

12) Please carefully review bedding procedures before initiating the bedding cycle. Typically bedding will take a minimum of two complete heat cycles to achieve most of the performance available. Performance should continue to improve after these 2 cycles have been properly performed.
