A new camshaft can be a great way to increase performance in your car. The camshaft is responsible for the mechanical actuation of the valves in the car's engine. They can get flat spots and pitted which will affect the engines performance.
Camshaft Bearings and Hardware
The camshaft bearings are the load bearings on which the camshaft sits inside your vehicle's engine. It's a good idea to have these replaced when you have your head rebuilt.
The camshaft positioning sensors are used to tell the computer where the engine is in its rotation with respect to the combustion cycle. If your car is running poorly or not at all the camshaft positioning sensor may be faulty.
The tolerances between the valves and pistons on some engines are very narrow, and this potentially disastrous dance between parts is all kept in harmony by the timing chain and tensioners. Make sure yours are all in proper working shape so you can continue to hear sweet sounds from your engine for years to come.
