Camshafts |
| Original camshafts can be reground to work in rebuilt motors, however, they will never perform as well as a new one. This is because there is no way to replace the worn material on the cam lobes. While performing a full rebuild, you should replace both the camshaft and the lifters. If you regrind your old camshaft, make sure that you regrind the lifters as well. |

Hydraulic Lifters |
| Whenever you replace the camshaft, always replace the lifters as well. As with any moving parts, they wear down, so installing a new camshaft with old lifters can cause premature wear on your camshaft. |

Timing Belts/Chains |
| Another important set of components not to overlook are your timing chains and gears. The timing chains and belts keep the pistons and cylinders aligned and running in sync. If the chain slips or the belt breaks, then the pistons will most likely hit the valves, and you will have some very expensive engine rework on your hands. Don't chance it - use new parts here. If you don't change the belt and it snaps, the valves can hit the pistons and cause something similar to this.. WARNING, not for the faint of heart.Valve Disaster Article. |
