| Steering Racks, Bushings and Hardware | | Wobbly steering wheels getting you down? It could be caused by a number of things. How can you tell if your steering rack is worn? In most cases, you need to remove it from the car, and take a close look at it. Backlash is defined as the amount of slack that is in the rack when you turn the steering wheel. If the rack is overly worn, then you will have lots of slop in the wheel, and the pinion that sticks out of each end of the rack will also be loose. The rack may also have a tendency to stick. Again, you should remove your rack and inspect it carefully before you spend your money on a new or rebuilt one. |

It clamps down on the tie rod and pushes it out of the tapered fitting that is on the end of the strut. Make sure that you use a tool when removing the tie rod end - smacking it repeatedly with a hammer probably will not work, and most certainly will damage your strut.
