Engine Rebuild Materials |
| Liqui Moly Anti-Seize Compound |
Anti-seize compound is used to help prevent galling of steel studs under extreme heat conditions. Studs that are particularly vulnerable to galling are the exhaust and head studs. I recommend using anti-seize on your head studs and exhaust studs during the rebuild process.
It is important to note that Porsche doesnt recommend the use of anti-seize compound on spark plugs, as detailed in Porsche Technical Bulletin 9102, Group 2, identifier 2870. The bulletin applies retroactively to all Porsche models and the theory is that the anti-seize tends to act as an electrical insulator between the plug and the cylinder head. This could have detrimental effect on the firing of the spark due to the loss of a good, consistent ground connection. |

| Loctite RTV Black Silicone |
| Black Loctite high-temp silicone is useful for sealing the small o-rings on the case through-bolts. The black color will blend in easily with your case, and will provide added protection against leaks at this interface. |

| Curil-T Sealant |
| Curil-T is a good, thin sealant that I use as an extra precaution against oil leaks when installing some seals. You will want to spread it around on a few of the seals and gaskets during the rebuild process. |

PEL-246948 | Curil-T Sealant, 75 ml tube Brand: Elring Klinger [More Info] | $14.00
| JB Weld |
| There are several spots on the case where an original bonding/sealing agent was placed. These are the places where a factory dowel pin or plug has been inserted into the case. JB Weld is an excellent heavy-duty epoxy that can be used to replace the dabs of factory epoxy that help seal some of these areas of the case and chain housings. |

PEL-JB8265 | JB Weld [More Info] | $7.87
| Kimwipes Cleanroom Cloths |
| These are lint-free, dust-free cloths that will not leave any fibers that can clog tiny oil passages. The 911 engine can only be improved by such close attention to cleanliness and detail. Before each part is assembled, wipe it down one last time with isopropyl alcohol to remove any dust or dirt. |

PEL-KM34155 | Kimwipes Cleanroom Cloths, 4.5"x8.5", 280 count [More Info] | $8.95
| Loctite Red 271 |
| The red Loctite compound essentially glues the bolts together, and virtually eliminates the chances of them backing out. Be careful only to use a small bead - too much Loctite on the flywheel bolts can actually prevent them from seating properly. Ironically, this can cause the bolts to fall out later on - exactly what you were trying to prevent by using the Loctite in the first place! |

| Lubro Moly Engine Assembly Lube |
| The Lubro-Moly formulation is a bit thicker than others, which means it's easier to spread, and creates less of a mess. It comes in a 3.5 ounce tube, and one of these should be more than enough for a single 911 engine rebuild. |

| Plastigage |
| Plastigage provides a fast and accurate way to check bearing clearances. Plastigage is a special extruded plastic thread of a definite diameter with accurately controlled crush properties. The material is round, smooth and flexible through a wide range of temperatures. Extreme cold will make it somewhat brittle and heat will soften the material. However, Plastigage remains usable and accurate through all normal atmospheric variations of temperature and humidity in work areas where bearing clearances may be checked. |
