Several larger, late model GM cars use the heavy single brake spring. The spring tension must be released to disassemble the brake to replace brake shoes, emergency brake cable, or service the brake cylinder. This tool engages the single brake spring and quickly releases the spring tension. The tool holds the spring in the open position so both hands are free to service the brake.
