After REMOVING the bolts, the coupler should slide off of one shaft onto the other. If it does not, there is a defect with the shaft; you may have to spread the coupler to get it to move. > > > > 1. Any help on how to ease tranny removal? Not any easy job in any respect. Manuals are a must (but don't have all the answers). You may want to consider doing some clutch work while your at it. Be sure to replace all the shifter bushings and the shifter. Otherwise its all just nut and bolt turning. > > > > 2. Any thoughts on my tranny problem? > The spring cover may be or may have caused the problem. Barring the external linkage; I'm not sure on the 944, but on 911s, and 914s, there is a shifter fork on the bottom/side of the transmission that can be removed to indium the other forks: try to look for a similar solution. Otherwise, you'll have to do a partial disassembly just to un-stick the fork. Be very kind to the gaskets; some are of an exact thickness and need to be replaced just the same. > > > Thanks for your help........Tom Let me know how it turns out or if you have any other questions. Tom in parts (1-888-280-7799) can get all the parts you need. Good luck james
