I've been trying think of a way to condense a great deal of information. You have your work cut out for you. For starters, call Tom in parts (1-888-280-7799) and order a Haynes manual, and Technical Specifications Book for your car. You'll need to test the many components of your fuel injection system for your surging problem. In the end this will be easier than me trying to throw darts at your problem. The surging is caused by poor mixture vs timing; and that can be caused by anything. You may want to check the O-ring at the mixture screw as this is a common problem. We just went through this with a friends car only to discover (after it passed every test known to man) that the head was bad. its a little hard to explain; I've never seen anything like it. Your running hot may be a side effect of your other problem. First thing you should do though is test the cooling system with a probe to verify the gage is correct (VDO gages are known to fail). Then make sure all the basics are in order: make sure air can get to, and through the radiators without obstruction; 30% antifreeze (summer); install Redline WatterWetter; use premium grade lubricants like Redline or Swepco (engine and transmission). Are your fans working correctly? Does in only get hot with the A/C, or without as well? Good luck, and let me know how it turns out; james > > SLY1860@aol.com wrote: > > > We have a 1984 944 which I purchased and replaced the engine with a rebuilt > > one.
