Thanks, Wayne Porsche wrote:  Dear Pelican, I would be very grateful if you could help me with the following problem. My 944 1986 C Reg won't start. The engine turns over, but doesn't fire.  On having it checked no spark is getting to the engine. However, when trying it out first thing in the morning it does start, goes for about ten seconds, then stops and refuses to start again. This happened again on trying it first thing this morning. I have tried drying out the ECU which made no difference.  What else can I try? I look forward to hearing from you. By the way your internet site is great. Many Thanks Martin Well Martin, if your not getting spark you must test the system from the sparkplug back to see where the problem is. What's this about drying out the ECU??? Do you mean the DME under the floorboard? and why would it be wet? check spark to the distributor; not ok check terminals 1 & 15 on the coil for resistance, then check terms1 & 4 (you should have a manual for these checks, or just swap coils with a new one); if ok the problem is a lack of power to the coil: if I remember correctly, one side of the coil is hot (12V), and the other is a trigger. The trigger side (Green wire) is tied to the DME, Alarm, Tachometer. Check all wires and battery cables (even to the starter and alternator). If the coil is good, and you have power to the coil your problem gets more complicated... Many people have disconnected the alarm because of this problem. If the DME is the problem that's another story, it could be just a sensor. Check these things and get back to me. james
