There are allot of different chips out there, and they're all a little different. Most stuff like this is made to be optimized with a particular "set-up". Sometimes the manufactures will tell you how to get the max out of their chip; and sometimes if you don't set the car up as specified it could makes things worse. This is especially true on turbos. This is why there will always be differing opinions on what is "best". If you really want the best: you have to go with a custom made Motec unit (about $1,500 I'm guessing). Other good ones are Weltmiester, APE and Autothority. My best advice is discuss it with the manufactures (at least three) before purchasing. I have found that the best thing you can do for a normally aspired 944 is replace the CAT with a test pipe (make no other modification to the exhaust system). As far as changing the chip goes, I don't think it can be done to the early cars; but I don't know what year they changed the DME units ( I think its possible on your car though). james > > Thanks, > > Wayne > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: JObrienIV@aol.com [mailto:JObrienIV@aol.com] > > Sent: Wednesday, June 23, 1999 1:33 PM > > To: pelicanparts@csi.com > > Subject: ALOHA heroes of the automotive world > > > > > > Hello > > I just bought my first Porsche, its a 1986 944 saphire w/ 68000.
