Either with the factory tool or a few box-end wrenches and a LOT of luck AND care (I used the wrenches and neither luck nor care neither, got fairly damaged)--OR with Mike Cooley's Ricky-Doo Torsion Bar Tool. E-mail rickydik@ix.netcom.com (RD Rick) to talk to RD about using his, or get the specs from the Pelican Parts page , or from Mike himself, and make your own. The general theory is that it's a clamp on the torsion bar with holes around it so you can use levers to rotate it--and to stop it from springing back until you want it to. >--I found a small, perfectly round 1/4-inch diameter hole in the floor >behind the passenger seat. Why the heck would that be there?? Uhh, it leaked and a PO added a "drain hole"? That's all I can think of offhand. >--when turning the manual headlight lifter, the motor catches at a certain >point and moves the light up and back down really fast. Why might this be >happening, is it normal, and what can I do about it? I need to clean under >there... It's normal. Any time the headlight switch is "off", the headlight lifter tries to move the headlight to the "down" position. It stops trying if a mechanical switch inside the linkage says the light is actually down. Once you move it up enough, the switch doesn't say it's down, so the lifter motor runs and the light goes the rest of the way up and then down. Top stop this (f'rinstance, if you're trying to replace the bulb), you can either put the "parking lights" on, or just remove the round relay next to the headlight motor. Pulling the relay and leaving the car off is much safer if you're going to be dinking with the electrical stuff. >--also with the same headlight, it raises at the same speed as the other >one, it sits as high as the other one when fully raised, but when closed >the front of the panel sits maybe 1/4 inch below the level of the hood. >How can this be fixed? There are several things to adjust in the headlight lifting mech- anism. I don't think moving the pivots around is going to help with the front of the light, unless you mess with other stuff as well. (BTW, the bolts are usually REALLY TOUGH to budge...) There are adjustments in the linkage from the motor to the light as well, and other adjustments on the light itself. These all seem to affect each other at least a bit, so it is a pretty long and complicated process to get them all right. >--is there anyplace to route the oil blow-off valve back into the case >somehow to eliminate the spray? I have carbs. See my earlier post about a breather box. Dave Darling 74 914 2.0 (VROOM!) darling@simlab.arc.nasa.gov <--- OR ---> ddarling@wgss.com "914: The Porsche Picnic Basket.
