In the SF Bay Area, prices *used* to range from $3500-$5500 for "driver" 2.0s. I know someone who paid $7K for one, and someone else who picked one up for $3K. Some people don't know what they've got, and others really over-value their cars. (I certainly do! Even in pieces, you'd have to pay me *much* more than the car is worth to buy it from me!) If you don't mind "some assembly required", you may be able to head over to the DC area and pick up Dirk Wright's car--and maybe a case of Dirk Wright's Disease too. But with the effort he has put into it so far, it should be a pretty darn good car when it's all together! >I bought the AA >"How to Buy a 914" book but the prices that are listed in this book seem >very high. I have heard several stories of people who have bought cars from AA, and the opinions are pretty varied. They range all the way from, "I got a pretty good deal", to "I got royally shafted". I have heard less about buying from Otto's down in Venice CA. Only two people so far, but both were pleased with the car they got. Tim Jones, in particular, got his "blacked-out bumblebee" from them. You can check pix and the story (and pix after the yellow was added back on) on the 914 Fan Page, . Also, for more 914 buying guides, check the Pelican Parts website. They have an article of their own, plus the "what to look for in a 914" sec- tion of my FAQ. . Somewhat different perspec- tives, some redundancies, but I figure that more info is better than less. Good luck--I hope you get a good car that treats you well! --DD Dave Darling 74 914 2.0 (decapitated) darling@simlab.arc.nasa.gov "OFF WITH ITS HEADS!"
