I haven't seen anyone else field this one yet, so... I don't know this for certain, but I think the way that the sump attatches to the case is different for the Type I and Type IV motors. The stock sump plate on a Type I has six (?) bolts around the edge. The stock Type IV sump plate has a single nut (that looks like a bolt) up through the center--right into the oil pickup tube! I would think that the tubes are also quite different between the two, since the Type IV has a stud in the middle of it. That means the oil pickup tube extension (needed with a deep sump) would be different as well. You might be able to put the bits together and make it work, but I think it would probably be cheaper (and a heck of a lot easier!) to get a sump designed specifically for the Type IV. Weltmeister's Oil Trap (AKA the "tuna can") springs to mind. I think it's only about $50, maybe less from Pelican. [Blatant plug.] I used the tuna can for autocrossing and was quite happy with the results. The oil light stayed out in the corners until I did four on-ramps in a row--four 270 degree right turns, one after the other, with VERY small straights in between. (It was quite fun!) The light came on toward the end of the fourth ramp. --DD Dave Darling 74 914 2.0 (kaput) darling@simlab.arc.nasa.gov "If it ain't broke--fix it until it *is*!"
