You are correct in assuming that the smoke was from burning the oil that you put in the cylinders. It was not harming anything, except maybe fouling the spark plugs. After you run it a little more to get rid of all the excess oil in the cylinders, you may want to replace the plugs. Operating temp for this engine is the 190-220 range. You want to get it to 212F periodically to vaporize any moisture that may have accumulated in the oil. The oil pressure typically reads rather low at idle. When the engine in running at higher RPM, the rule of thumb is one bar (about 15 ppsi) of oil pressure per 1,000 RPM, so at 3,000 RPM you have good oil pressure if it is 3 bar, or about 45 ppsi. It sounds like your shifter bushings are shot. They are inexpensive, and not difficult to replace. There is a ball cup one at the very bottom of the shift lever, and an O-shaped on that guides the shifter rod. You may also need to replace the shift rod coupler. It is under the cover in the tunnel just behind the front seats. Take the cover off, and you can inspect the coupler. Some fore-and-aft play is normal. Call Tom in parts at 1-888-280-7799 and he will fix you up with the required parts. Hope this helps, Bob at Pelican Parts Ron Beechan wrote: > Bob, > > After following your advice, I decided it was time to fire up the motor. I > installed the plugs and wires and cranked it over.
